What to think about when wanting a website designing!
Goals and Purpose
1. What is the single most important goal for this new website?
(e.g., generate leads, sell products, reduce customer support calls, build brand authority)
2. Who are your ideal visitors, and what is the one thing you want them to do immediately
upon arriving?
3. What is currently frustrating or unsuccessful about your existing website (if you have one)?
4. How will the success of the new site be measured?
(e.g., X% increase in form submissions, lower bounce rate, number of sales per month)
Target Audience
1. Who are the top 2–3 audience segments visiting your site?
(e.g., new customers, existing customers, job applicants)
2. What is the biggest pain point your product or service solves for them?
3. What is the primary information each audience segment seeks when they arrive?
4. What is the general tech-savviness of your typical user?
(This impacts navigation and feature complexity.)
Content and Functionality
1. What is the full list of pages or sections required?
(e.g., Home, About, Services, Contact, Blog, Pricing)
2. What special functionality is non-negotiable?
(e.g., E-commerce store, booking calendar, complex calculator, members-only area)
3. Who is responsible for providing content (text, photos, videos)?
Is it ready, or will the project need copywriting and/or photography?
4. Do you have an existing brand style guide, logo files, or specific fonts that must be used?
5. Which Content Management System (CMS) do you prefer, if any?
Budget, Timeline, and Logistics
1. Do you have a fixed budget or a comfortable price range for this project?
2. What is your ideal launch date, and are there any hard deadlines that must be met?
3. Who is the primary contact for design sign-offs and feedback?
4. Who will be responsible for website maintenance, hosting, and security after the site is
launched?
Visual and Aesthetic Preferences
1. Are there 2–3 websites (even outside your industry) that you love, and why?
(Focus on the why – layout, speed, simplicity, or colour.)
2. Are there any websites that you dislike, and why?
(This helps identify what to avoid.)
3. What three adjectives should a visitor use to describe your website after viewing it?
(e.g., professional, playful, trustworthy, modern, reliable)
4. What colour schemes are preferred?
(Include preferences for background, text, titles, and subtitles).
